Ep 389 – Gravel Samwidge

Gravel Samwidge:

Live at The Triffid, Newstead, 12 December 2019

Previously featured way back in episode 63 of Live Delay, Gravel Samwidge formed in 1989 when Mark Spinks and Paul Curran from punk band The Nappy Hackers wanted to explore a new musical direction. Forming initially in Sydney, the band had many lineup changes and guest musicians as they went through stints in Melbourne and Townsville before settling in Brisbane. Spinks has been the sole mainstay on guitar and vocals, and the current version of the band stabilised in 2008 with the rhythm section of Ash Jenkins on bass and Alex “Sleepy” Morrison on drums. Over the past decade Gravel Samwidge have often been joined by Matt Kennedy on second guitar, as you’ll hear in this set.

While not recording much for the first half of their career, the band have released a healthy string of records and EPs since 2009, the most recent being the 2021 album “Complaints”.
