Died Pretty are a formative band for many and have been a huge success in Australia and around the world.
The band formed in 1983 in Sydney and created a sound most credit towards an early electric Dylan mixed with psychedelic influences. Died Pretty were formed under Ron Peno and Brett Myers and their first 5 performances were actually under the name Final Solution and all took place in Brisbane.
The name Died Pretty came about as a reference to James Dean’s line “Live hard, die young, leave a beautiful corpse” to Die Pretty.
They garnered Australian attention on the alternative music scene with a few big singles and split releases. It was their EP ‘Next To Nothing’ released in 1985 which set the band off in a big way. The EP was in the alternative charts for almost a year, with three Number 1. It was also released in the UK and France gathering them a considerable following.
Died Pretty went on to release 8 albums in their time with some reaching high up in the ARIA charts and playing consistently in Australia, America and Europe.
The albums are now iconic and Died Pretty became one of Australia’s prominent alternative rock bands influencing many bands around the country.
They were a part of the original 1992 Big Day Out line up and then returned 20 years later in 2012 to play the iconic festival again.
The band officially disbanded in 2002 but thankfully returned in 2008 to play their iconic album ‘Doughboy Hollow’ in its entirety.
