We’re rapidly approaching the half century of Live Delay, and Episode 40 of the show takes in some great live recordings from Brisbane artists NAKED MAJA and SECRET BIRDS.
NAKED MAJA
Recorded and mixed by Will Clarke.
Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane.
Naked Maja are an experimental pop four piece from Brisbane who’ve been playing around the traps for about two years now. They’re made up of Cedie Janso, Chris Pearson, Emma Sayer and Scott Wilson and they call the likes of Stereolab, Brian Eno and Deerhunter among their varied influences – all influences that I can wholeheartedly endorse as excellent artists to name check.
But Naked Maja are definitely more than simply the sum of their influences. They’ve clearly developed distinct musical identity upon a floating sea of musical ideas. And you’re about to hear what I exactly mean on this feature live set from the group’s performance at The Waiting Room in Brisbane from early 2013. Make sure you don’t miss it.

SECRET BIRDS
Recorded and mixed by Will Clarke.
Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane.
Digital sound manipulator Damon Black heads Secret Birds, a musical project that shrugs off definition. It teases us with pyschedelia, draws us in with ambience, and takes us to some mythical plane of existence. Will Clarke captured Secret Birds in all its glory at The Waiting Room in Brisbane back in January 2013 as part of the well-respected Sonic Masala gig series. It’s pretty special and worth staying up past your bed time.
