Cigány Weaver – Lauren Crabbe
Live at Yonder Festival, Mary Valley, 29 November 2019
Brisbane-based Romani-style jazz ensemble Cigány Weaver have been working hard to win over audiences with their spectacular live shows for several years now, including spots at the Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival and MONA’s Dark Mofo.
The band’s debut, self-titled EP was released in 2016 and was a live recording of interpretations of song from the history of film. Their debut album from 2019, also self-titled, showcased both original material and a few older standards.
While normally a six-piece, this set recorded at Yonder Festival’s Wunderbar Stage featured the band as a slightly stripped-down four-piece, with Jo Davies on vocals, Gareth Mewes on violin and Rory Dollard and Conor McDonald on guitars.
Recorded by Lauren Holyoak
Mixed by Joseph McCormack
This set was mixed by an audio production student from the Queensland University of Technology as part of their course. We’d like to give special thanks to Yanto Browning and John Willsteed at QUT for facilitating this collaboration.
