Forming in Brisbane in 2005, the nucleus of I Heart Hiroshima was born at a house party, with Sullivan Patten, Matt Somers and Mel Ralph (later replaced by Cameron Hawes) joining forces to create a ‘2-guitars and drums’ jangle rock band. 2006 saw the release of 2 EP’s and unrelentless touring which had eyes and ears glued to what was going to come next. Their debut album ‘Tuff Teef’ saw the light of the day in August 2007 with publications in Australia and UK going wild for their sound. They backed it up with their 2nd album ‘The Rip’ in 2009, with their single ‘Shakeytown’ taking out the No. 1 spot on the 4ZZZ Hot 100 countdown on New Year’s Day 2010.

Sullivan moved to Germany in 2011, which put the band into indefinite hibernation, with Cameron and Matt playing in bands such as Martyr Privates and Slug Guts during the meantime. When Sullivan arrived back in Brisbane in 2015, the band got back together and started playing shows again, with new material being thrown into the setlists. The first song to be released post-hiatus was called ‘Fifty-Three’ and before the end of the year, had a new EP titled ‘Spillin’ The Light’.
