Originally forming in Perth back in 1997 by Gareth Liddiard and his high school friend Rui Pereira, The Drones have accomplished a lot for a band that doesn’t get much airplay on mass media corporate stations.
The band rose to prominence in 2005 with their album ‘Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By’, which won them the inaugural Australian Music Prize. Since then, The Drones have had a long career cementing them as Australian icons, playing festivals such as Big Day Out, Laneway Festival, Falls Festival and A Day On The Green, as well as extensive international touring. With 7 albums under their belt, they’ve demonstrated what a band can do when they stick to their guns.
