Shrapnel is the solo synth pop project of Sydney-sider Sam Wilkinson, perhaps better known for his involvement in bands such as: Day Ravies, King Tears Mortuary and Mope City. ‘Tobacco Dreams’ is his debut release on Tenth Court records, a bedroom-pop album that does a fine job showing that Sam is one of those multi-talented kind of guys that’s helping further blur the line of song-writer and producer.

Comprising of members of the equally dearly departed Whores and Oily Boys, Orion take up the quieter, more melodic moments hinted on that latter band’s debut EP, Majesty. They sit somewhere between the arty post punk of Naked on The Vague and the slightly less arty post punk of Constant Mongrel. In fact, some songs have an almost Orange Juice kind of suave.
