Woah! Episode 13 of Live Delay goes against the grain and you’re in for a fortunate set of live music.

Today we feature two sets – this time both from BrisVegas. First up is a couple of songs from local pop idol and unabashed Michael Jackson fan, EDWARD GUGLIELMINO. We then travel back in space and time to catch WINTER SOLSTICE playing in the Chinatown Mall in Fortitude Valley circa 2011.

EDWARD GUGLIELMINO
Recorded by Anthony Pink. Mixed by Matthew Redlich.
Recorded at Cori’s House, 2010.

Know around the place as Ed G, Ed has been playing music around Brisbane for most of this century. Often described with terms such as “avant-garde pop”, he’s a rare breed. A musician with opinions and a biting sense of good-humoured cynicism.

He’s toured around the world and is regularly welcomed in cities like New York, Berlin and Hobart. He’s played with the likes of UK Songstress Kate Nash, and he great record called Sunshine State in 2012.

Today’s featured set predates all this, and we’re going back to the wilds of 2010 to catch Ed playing songs in someone’s backyard. Specifically, Cori’s backyard. Whereever that may be. It’s great, so make sure you catch it in full.

WINTER SOLSTICE
Recorded and mixed by Sky Kirkham
Recorded at the 2011 4ZZZ Radiothon in the Chinatown Mall, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Now I’ll be the first to admit I hadn’t heard of Winter Solstice before someone plopped the live recordings down in front of me and ordered me to listen. I’m glad they did – because it’s really quite pleasant.

Winter Solstice are a four-piece alternative folk band who traverse a number of influences – including folk, jazz, classical music, pop and even metal. All topped off with harmonies – I love harmonies.

Made up of Ari, Rosie, Kez and Joy they’ve been going since about 2008, we managed to catch them performing in the Chinatown mall back in 2011 for 4ZZZ’s radiothon.
