Episode 8: Kyü; Albatross

Episode 8 of Live Delay boards a short flight and takes a weekend trip to Sydney. On this edition, we sample some of Sydney’s best duos with two live sets from Kyü and Albatross.

KYÜ
Recorded by Andrew Edgson
Mixed by Harvey O’Sullivan for FBi Radio, Sydney.

Kyü do pop music at experimental, almost primordial, angles. The Sydney duo composed of Alyx Dennison and Freya Berkhout are fond of overlapping vocal melodies, tribalistic drum beats, and generous use of synths, pianos and even glockenspiel.

They’re a band that excels on the live stage and is capable of emotionally moving even the most obstinate individuals. We’re fortunate enough to have a small set to share with you courtesy of our friends at FBi Radio in Sydney.

ALBATROSS
Recorded and mixed by Harvey O’Sullivan for FBi Radio, Sydney.

Our next set is from another Sydney duo by the name of Albatross. Yes, another duo – but this time it’s an all male affair, with Thomas McAlister and Sam Weston twiddling the knobs and programming the beats.

Self described as ‘dreamfunk’, Albatross certainly are fond of playing a brand of chilled out electronic music heavily reliant on ambience, they nurture the listener, taking them on a journey into the unknown.
